Overdramatising chess a bit but also showing its depth very well, and ofc Russia=bad LUL Also immersive acting everywhere imo.
And the scenery CGI is arse but that can easily be overlooked.

friccing excellent series. solid 9/10 for me. I went into it wondering "how do you make a series centered around competitive chess entertaining". well, answer is simple enough, good characters, interesting storyline & script, and excellent acting.

cannot recommend enough

Russia was shown as a unit that wants to win, while the US plebs always lost until they worked together. So Russia = bad, might simplify things a little :gostma:

As a fan of monsters, I'm hybe.

I have 0 expectations for the plot though. Kappa

Not sure if The Batman was posted earlier, since the trailer is 5 months old, but it looks like it has potential.

It's not the first time they've met, if you regard the Japanese "Kajiu" genre as a source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiju (tl;dr, there's a lot of them)
Warner Bros have had plans for this many years now, and there's even been hints/rumours that Pacific Rim is part of this universe.
The plots are usually subpar, or mediocre, but who cares.
It's all about seeing monsters fight.

watched The Pacific. if you like wartime movies, would certainly recommend.
I liked. not sure how accurate (or if at all) the series was, but many of the characters were based on real-life people

if you dislike gore (or plan to watch it with others that dislike it), then it's a big no-no. towards the end it gets very graphic. even I got uncomfortable at times and I'd say I'm quite attuned to watching these kind of things ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

currently watching Your Honor (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7440726/)
it has Bryan Cranston, like you need any more motivation to watch it Kappa

Carnival Row (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489974/)
better than I was expecting it to be. mainly because Cara Delewhateverthefuck's acting wasn't actually garbage, which truly surprised me LUL
Orlando was also fairly gud, not a fan of his acting generally

Elysium (2013) - thought I had watched it before, I indeed had. just wasn't too memorable for me. as far as Sci-Fi shooters go, it was pretty good

Brightburn (2019) -
not sure if this is supposed to even be a take on the superhero genre, but that's what it felt like to me. a creepy, thriller/horror sort of infusion. like what would happen if a young superman turned (very) evil

Geostorm (2017) - meh, this one kinda bored me. I keep looking for a movie where Gerald Butler is the protagonist and the movie is good. so far I haven't found one other than Law Abiding Citizen :D

Bird Box (2018) - I actually thought it was pretty great. not the acting (it wasn't bad though), but the storyline of the movie. not to spoil anything, but the "bad thing" could have been portrayed as something more sinister or evil. or just something else entirely

The Invisible Man (2020) - another thriller/horror. I liked it. the plot twist at the end was kinda shite though imo

Mortal Engines (2018) - interesting concept. a steampunker-futuristic Sci-Fi. I liked it though it's probably going to be boring for a lot of people, I'd imagine

It's different. Lore wise I'd say this is better. It has nice characters and decent acting, but unfortunately sometimes I also get trash-vibes. Somehow it's not getting me immersed as well as other series did, then again S1 was the last thing I binged.
Whole package-wise the movie wins because it isn't a series and can actually compress everything well OpieOP

Boromir tho

In summary, I'd recommend it.

haven't seen that, added to my [extensive] list :truln:

watched Greenland (which Gerald was also in): it was okay. don't think it's a movie I'd watch again but I felt like watching more disaster/apocalyptic movies :krygrthinking:

on the subject of the Snowpiercer series - I watched the first ~20 minutes. thought it was awful LUL so I gave up and moved onto the next on my list
haven't read the books so not something I had much interest in, in the first place

Zack Snyder cut out today. Watching it tonight but FOUR hours long so I had better drink my wine slowly.
